Self-reviews for effecting change

Purpose

There are many models for conducting self-reviews, but no conclusive evidence to advocate for one model over the others. In this interactive workshop, building on the experiences of the facilitators and the participants, we will identify principles for conducting effective institutional self-review processes. Because a process in itself is not enough to ensure results, effective follow-up strategies will also be explored.

Program outline

Presentations from the facilitators, examination of a number of case studies, and input from the participants through small group exercises and sharing of experiences and learnings will form the basis of the discussions. Topics will include:

  • Purposes of self-review
  • Organising  a self-review (including reflections on how to assure ownership and improvement, linkages to planning processes)
  • Selecting and preparing the necessary documentation
  • Reporting
  • Follow through

Facilitators

  • Ms Robyn Adams, Audit Director, AUQA
  • Prof Jenny Strong, Professor of Occupational Therapy and former President of Academic Board, The University of Queensland

Participants

There were 28 participants at the workshop, which was suitable for both self-accrediting and non-self accrediting institutions, across VET and higher education.
