Welcome

The Australian Universities Quality Forum (AUQF) is the premier national annual event for the discussion of quality assurance and quality enhancement in the Australian higher education sector. The Forum’s aim is to stimulate debate about quality assurance within the sector and to share good practice.

AUQF2009 will be held at the Alice Springs Convention Centre, 1-3 July 2009.

The forum theme for 2009 is ‘Internal & External Quality Assurance: Tensions & Synergies’. The program is intended to reflect the evolving relationship between external and internal quality assurance as understandings of quality assurance in the higher education sector mature.

Professor Chris Brink, Newcastle University (UK) will present a keynote address on the issue of standards, referring to both the areas of teaching and research, and Professor Roger Brown, Liverpool Hope University (UK) will present on the architecture of quality systems at an international level.

Other elements of the program include: a panel of vice-chancellors reflecting on whether external quality audit has made a difference to practice in the sector; a panel of Indigenous Australian quality experts discussing whether opportunities for Indigenous participation in higher education are enhanced by developments in quality assurance; and a panel of media commentators, reflecting on the reporting of quality assurance issues.

As well, the program will address issues of particular relevance to those operating in non self accrediting institutes, including a pre-forum workshop, and to students.
